Our village, Sebeșu de Sus (Sibiu County), is located in central Romania at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. It is the last village before the hiking trails begin toward the Carpathians (to Șuru Chalet), making it the perfect base for nature lovers.

For a week, you will have the village house as your base and fill your days with activities in nature, visiting cultural sights, and relaxing.

It sits on a plot of 1800 m² with a large garden, mountain views, and play areas for children. There is also a barn for outdoor seating in the shade. Plenty of parking in the courtyard or on the street. The house is fully furnished with a fully equipped kitchen, bed linens, and utilities included.
  • Car rental for 7 full days: Skoda Octavia (manual) or similar for up to 4 people, and minivan (Opel Vivaro or similar, manual) for 5-6 people. SCDW included. Pick up and return at Sibiu, Cluj, or Bucharest airports.
  • You will be provided with a detailed booklet of places to visit, eat, concrete directions, and contacts to easily plan and organize your time in the region.

About the village, Sebesu de Sus

Sebeșu de Sus, located in Racovița Commune, Sibiu County, is a village known for its rich traditional heritage. Local legend tells of two brothers, skilled craftsmen named Sebeșan, who crossed the Olt River searching for a mountain stream suitable for their work. Their plan was to build a pivă, a water-powered mechanism used historically to felt and process wool into textiles.

The brothers went separate ways: one established a settlement along the Moașa River, forming Sebeșu de Sus, while the other founded Sebeșu de Jos in a neighboring valley to the west. These settlements became centers of traditional craft and local ingenuity.

Sebeșu de Sus appears in historical documents dating back to 1383. Over time, the village has been referred to by different names, such as Oltfelsősebes in Hungarian and Oberschebesch in German, reflecting the cultural diversity of the area.
Today, the village continues to celebrate its heritage, including the legacy of water-powered craft techniques and mountain village life.

Făgăraș Fest – Nature, Culture and Community

Făgăraș Fest is an annual festival set in the village of Sebeșu de Sus in Racovița Commune, Sibiu County. It brings together music, outdoor activities, workshops, guided walks, discussions, and family‑friendly experiences in a setting shaped by the Făgăraș Mountains and the Moașa River. The event is organised by Foundation Conservation Carpathia in partnership with the local community and authorities, with a strong focus on celebrating the region’s natural and cultural values.

The festival typically takes place over three days in July and features live performances by well‑known Romanian artists, numerous guided hikes and nature walks, creative workshops, debates under the banner of “Carpathia Talks”, and activities for children and adults alike. Many of these activities explore the landscape around Valea Moașei, including tours to waterfalls and interpretive sessions about the local environment and heritage.

Beyond entertainment, Făgăraș Fest emphasises sustainability and community involvement. It operates with a “green festival” mindset—using compostable or reusable materials and encouraging responsible behaviour toward the environment. A portion of festival revenue and supportive initiatives are directed back into local development and conservation projects, helping to strengthen rural enterprises and promote sustainable tourism in the area.
